Case Study- Television Centre

On the recent external refurbishment project at the Television Centre in London, the key objectives were to provide greater functionality of the available space, together with improving the health & safety and general aesthetics of the area. One of the immediate problems encountered was the fact that a variety of underground services entered the centre in the area concerned. These had previously been covered by cumbersome, heavy steel chequerplate sheets that needed to be manually lifted and removed to a safe place when access was required.

In view of increased pedestrian activity within the area, and necessary compliance with manual handling regulations, a secure, robust yet lightweight access cover system was required.

A variety of lightweight Assistlift covers were subsequently installed from the recently launched GATIC Halliday range of Aluminium Spring Assisted Access Covers including several small single covers and an impressive large 4 part unit to cover a chamber measuring 4m x 2.5m.

Future operation and maintenance will also now be significantly improved, as all of the covers have a maximum lift load of 18kg and are covered by a Lifetime Guarantee.
